The classroom code of conduct replaces a set of "Rules" with sets guidelines for students and teacher on how to behave and interact. This helps to keep every person accountable for there own actions and helps students to learn self-discipline. I plan to create a code of conduct for my classroom with the input of my students. When students help to create the rules and consequences they have a personal vested interest in abiding by them. I believe students also find a code of conduct more fair and reasonable when they have contributed to them. I will also get the parents involved by sending them copy before the final draft and ask for their input.
Creating a Code of Conduct. 1. Envision the ideal 2. Ask students for their visions of how they would like their classroom to be 3. Ask for parents input
Consequences When Dealing with student misbehaviors i plan to implement Linda Alberts four R's
The Four R’s of Consequences • Related—student is asked to do something related directly to the misbehavior. • Reasonable—consequence is proportional to the misbehavior, and is intended to teach not punish students. • Respectful—consequence is invoked in a friendly but firm manner, with no blaming, shaming, or preaching. • Reliably enforced—teachers invoke consequences and follow through in a consistent manner.
When students receive consequence that follow the four R's students are learning self-discipline as opposed to being punished or conditioned. I also believe these tactics will help my student's to take responsibility for their actions.
